Trades Technician I

Maintenance Ranger

Hiring Rate: $14.00 per hour

Bear Creek Lake State Park is accepting applications for the Maintenance Ranger position. This position is primarily responsible for groundskeeping, maintenance, and providing excellent customer service. Duties include, but are not limited to routine mowing, weed eating, trash pickup, trail work, equipment maintenance, light construction, and custodial tasks such as cleaning bathrooms and cabins as necessary. This position will also operate a variety of hand tools such as a hammer, sledge hammer, hand saws, hand pruners, loppers, shovel, pick, mattock, and axes.

The Maintenance Ranger will also operate power hand tools to include, but not limited to weed eater, pressure washer, blower, paint sprayer, circular saw, reciprocating saw, and drills of various types. Operation of specialized equipment will include UTVs, tractors, mowers, etc. The Maintenance Ranger will conduct routine maintenance on all equipment used and interact with the public, to include assisting with customer questions. Applicants may be asked to provide certifications relating to their experience upon the submission of the application.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. 
  • Must be able to work well with other staff and park guests. 
  • Basic hand tool, hand power tool, equipment familiarity and operation are required.

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience with lawn maintenance, plumbing, electrical repair, construction, facility/equipment/vehicle maintenance, and repair.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate tractors, commercial mowing equipment, chainsaw equipment, power tools, hand tools, etc.
  • Experience in the field of park maintenance/operations, recreation, forestry, trails, landscaping, construction or agriculture.

Special Requirements:

Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1500 hours from May 1 to April 30. Must be available to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. A valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.

Selected candidate(s) will need to complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.

  • DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service), are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:
    • Free camping utside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people. 
    • Free camping Sunday night thrugh Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
    • Fifty percent discunt on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights.  All reservations require a two-night minimum.  Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
