Đầm lầy Piedmont Upland Depression (Loại Pin Oak - Sồi trắng đầm lầy) – CEGL004643
A large pin oak (Quercus palustris) in one of several upland depressions near Lucketts in Loudoun County.  The depressions, which are geomorphologically unique in the Virginia Piedmont, are the result of subsurface solution and weathering of Cambrian limestone that is overlain by acidic alluvium and colluvium deposited from the eastern slope of Catoctin Mountain.  The geomorphic setting is thus similar to that of the Shenandoah Valley sinkhole ponds in Augusta and Rockingham counties.  © DCR-DNH, Gary P.
