Spring Pond in 2015, following an increase in flooding depth caused by beavers damming the pond's natural outlet in 2001.  Many trees were killed around the perimeter and the floating aquatic water shield (Brasenia schreberi) assumed dominance of the pond.  Similar hydrological and vegetation changes have probably been frequent over the 16,000-year+ history of this wetland. © DCR-DNH, Gary P.
