Seasonally flooded sinkhole pond at Deep Run Ponds State Natural Area Preserve in Rockingham County.  The community is characterized by scattered clumps of buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis), with local herbaceous patch-dominance by three-way sedge (Dulichium arundinaceum var. arundinaceum), spotted pondweed (Potamogeton pulcher), and mild water-pepper (Persicaria hydropiperoides). © DCR-DNH, Gary P.
